About the community
Bishop Paiute Tribe · Owens Valley · Eastern Sierra, California

The Bishop Paiute Tribe is a Nüümü (Paiute) and Newe (Shoshone) community in the Owens Valley, at the foot of the Eastern Sierra. The reservation sits on the western edge of the City of Bishop, and many tribal members live and work across Inyo County and beyond.

The Tribe’s app, powered by Communikit, brings Tribal Council news, departmental updates, events, job postings and documents into one feed. Staff publish once from the admin portal, and an urgent notice can reach every member on push, SMS and voice from the same screen.

Updates from Tribal Council, the Education, Environmental and Social Services departments and the community calendar land in one feed. Tabs separate News, Events, Jobs and Documents, so a member checking a meeting notice is not scrolling past a powwow listing. Forms are filled in inside the app, so a question to an office no longer waits for business hours.

An app that feels like Bishop Paiute Tribe

Members search for Bishop Paiute Tribe by name and find their own app — the community’s crest on the icon, its colours through every screen, its own language in place of a generic shell.

Administration keeps full control. Staff decide who can post, which groups receive what, and whether a notice goes out as an ordinary update or as a critical alert that bypasses Do Not Disturb. Registered members get a personalised feed and can save the posts that matter to them; everyone else still sees every public notice.

Events members can plan around

The Community Development Department’s 2026 Housing Fair went out as one event post, with the flyer, the date, the time and the location at the CDD Shop on See Vee Lane. It sits in the calendar beside meetings and program deadlines, so members can find it again in the days before the fair.
